In a broad and diverse practice that primarily explores their own lived experience as a queer and neurodiverse artist, Nottinghamshire-born and Manchester-based bookmaker and photographer Hollie Jayne Harrison investigates and dissects ideas surrounding memory, family, time and communication, focusing on their impact to self, and the photographic process.

At times working within the bounds of publication and book arts, Harrison creates and composes compelling narratives, using the book as an art object, to help understand and process the universal “happenings” of growing up. By exploring the role and relationship between tactility and the photograph, both within and beyond the boundaries of the art book, Harrison creates strong and intimate pieces, forcing the viewer to see past the image itself, creating a direct emotional connection to the work in hand. Much of Hollie Jayne Harrison’s practice sits in a physical form, as it is the way that she sees the world – through touch.

Alongside this focus on materiality and tactility within image-making and publication, Harrison’s photographic practice also sits on the bounds of the analogue-digital divide, in a variety of craft media. Their craft and practice sits beyond medium, from both traditional and unorthodox digital and analogue image production, to physical print methods such as screenprint and risograph - Harrison’s work pushes the bounds of the photographic image.
